Madison4Kids is delighted to announce that we have provided Falk Elementary School with a $1,000 grant to provide snacks and scholarships for girls participating in the Girls on the Run program of South Central Wisconsin. Girls on the Run aims to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Girls on the Run envision a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.
Girls on the Run is more than training for a race, it’s a way to increase self-confidence and success in achieving goals. The program promotes positive emotional, social, mental and physical development. Girls on the Run starts with helping the girls get a better understanding of who they are and discovering what is important to them. Participants learn the importance of team work and healthy relationships. Finally, the girls explore how they can positively connect with and shape the world.
In 2015, 17 fourth and fifth grade girls from Falk Elementary School were able to participate in Girls on the Run through scholarships from the organization and the City of Madison. The girls attended a twelve-week session, two days a week, that consisted of character-building, healthy living education and training for a 5K run. In addition to physical activity, another component of the program is community service. The girls choose a community service activity to participate in, which helps them value being a part of a community and giving back.
Madison 4 Kids is proud to help provide funding for the Girls on the Run program and Falk Elementry School, as many of the girls do not have an opportunity to engage in activities that promote healthy attitudes or a healthy lifestyle outside of the program and many of the children are also limited by finances and lack of transportation, preventing them from participating in out-of-neighborhood programs.
